A group of lawmakers have appealed to the G7 leaders to allow India to be a part of the global meeting on the Afghanistan crisis to develop a common and united front for regional stability in the aftermath of the Taliban takeover. Britain, allies want US to keep its forces to aid evacuation

Britain and other allies, many of whose troops followed American forces into Afghanistan nearly 20 years ago to deal with the plotters of the September 11 attacks on the United States, had urged Biden to keep American forces at the Kabul airport longer. No country would be able to evacuate all their citizens and at-risk Afghan allies by the August 31 deadline, allied officials have said.

Biden against G7 leaders' appeals to extend troops withdrawal

The United States clashed with some of its closest allies over President Joe Biden’s insistence on sticking to an August 31 Afghanistan withdrawal date that will shut down a frantic international evacuation effort from Taliban rule. At G7 leaders’ meet, Biden was adamant that the risk of terror attacks was too great to accede to appeals from the leaders to keep the 5,800 American troops at the Kabul airport beyond the August 31 deadline.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has said he shares the concern, anxiety and pain of the United Nations personnel in Afghanistan, asserting that the world organisation is doing everything in its power to ensure their safety and well-being. Guterres, in a video message to UN personnel in war-torn Afghanistan on Tuesday, said that they have “our full support and solidarity”.
